http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-40697952 NYMR LNER set vandalised
Some of the creepy-crawly little parasites involved went on social media and boasted about it. Real criminal masterminds.
If any members have any spare coppers or more there is a donation page to help to pay for the repairs. https://www.nymr.co.uk/donate/teak-set-appeal/5/credit-card. It has already gone past £4,000.
More to the point, what are the police doing about it?
@Chris Price on Facebook has commented that the Police response has been good . Plenty of DNA left behind and allegedly a lot of social media evidence which has been captured
There has been at least 1 arrest. The footage that appeared on social media resulted in 3 other scrotes being identified.

Interesting comment about finding 5 sleeping on board.
No mention if they were detained or not though.
There have been some comments on FB what some would like to do with these people if they caught them. Lucky in one respect they they weren't set alight, that is not to say it wasn't bad enough.
They were not detained. The carriage cleaner raised the alarm but could not be expected to prevent them leaving as was on his own at that point.

And now the East Lancs has been badly hit: http://www.burytimes.co.uk/news/154..._30_000_damage_on_East_Lancs_Railway/?ref=rss
There is NO deterrent these days. This country is far too soft.
Spot on....Unfortunately you can't treat the culprits as you would other vermin and eradicate them permanently.....
I would hope that at least some of the repair cost would be recovered by the railways insurance (?) but clearly that doesn't even start to come close to what the real cost is in terms of the blood sweat and tears that went into their restoration. Must be heartbreaking for those concerned.
Rubbish parents = rubbish kids. Somewhere in the past, people stopped taking responsibility for the behaviour of their offspring.
Deterrence has never worked as there is often little chance of identification and prosecution. Eradicate "vermin" and all that happens is more "vermin" take their place unless the conditions that allow the propagation of "vermin" are removed. Many parents are fearful of their offspring and have no authority over them.
The only solution is to adopt strategies that improve education, develop social cohesion and integration, reduce inequality and stop identification of worth with wealth. Easy to write but difficult to achieve after 30 years during which a significant proportion of our population have believed that "there is no such thing as society".
The inexorable march of time and all that means that I'm guessing you're probably thinking in terms of the last 40 years, rather than 30 (and if not, who are you and what have you done with Enterprise?)…
The trouble this isn't new
I was thinking of Thatcher's interview in 1987 when I had just been appointed head of the science and technology faculty in a fairly rough community college.
Nothing to do with any of that, crime is committed by criminals because they think they can get away with it. By the time social services and the defence lawyers have come up with the usual sob story this low life will almost certainly get away with it and walk away laughing.
In some European countries the culprits become liable for the cost of repair or, in the case of theft with no recovery, the cost of replacement. I'm not sure about elsewhere but in Portugal if the culprits are minors the responsibility lies with the parents. I know most of these sort of people will have no assets but the debt acts in the same way as a student loan and is deducted from any wages until paid off.
I nearly went 'off on one' myself, until I recalled this is the public section, not general chat. In fact, you lucky people, I've just deleted reams of invective for a second... scratch that..... third time!
For now, the insurance industry will probably be the best source of advice to minimise the potential for vandals to wantonly deface and destroy at will.
Would the judiciary remain as sanguine if it were their property being thus targeted? That was a purely rhetorical question!
I see crimes I could get away with every single day of the week. Yet for some unfashionable reason, I don't commit them…
Brung up rite, innit.
Separate names with a comma.
