Thread: Industrial Loco Updates!!

  1. Default Industrial Loco Updates!!

Although there are a number of threads relating to Industrials, I strikes me that this forum (particularly the loco updates) is dominated by the big, the black and the impractically large...!!!

Lets hear some updates on what people are doing with the real work horses... I have to confess my website is a little out of date (I'll try and update it), but it's a start and I'd love to hear what's happening to other locos all over the country...

What are you doing, what are your plans, what help do you need???

Come on chaps lets show these mainline men that we're not just a minor annoyance taking up the corners of sheds all over the country!!!

well, a wealth of knowledge on what's happening at the premier industrial line of the north east is here [url]http://railways.national-preservation.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=11685&start=1350[url], where all updates on tanfield progress can be found, along with any info on any north eastern engines that didn't make it to our yard!

Thanks for the link to the BRC stockbook page on Firefly (Punch Hull as was)!

Good to see the progress you are making.

I'll try to remember to put a link back to your site when I'm next updating my site.

    Actually yes...

The loco is currently on load to Rutland Railway Museum but is stored off site, awaiting shed space at Cottesmore.
She should be transported to Cottesmore in the very near future where the Museum will take on the task of completing her restoration.
Hopefully she will then take pride of place along side the growing list of ex-ironstone locos which the museum has managed to aquire.

Heres an update from the middleton:
M.S.C 67 out of service with a broken piston ring. It caused some damage to the piston itself and the repair we made to the cracked cylinder. Also when we took the piston out we only found half of the piston ring left!! (I was firing when it blew the ring out. We found a bit of the piston ring on top of the tank!!!)
1601 - mathew murray out of service when the joint on the main steam pipe failed when it was last in service. The pipe was reinstalled on saturday waiting for one of the ends to be expanded.
1210 - Sir Berkeley In steam boiler in spection this week, before a return to service (going away for NRM special weekend and to kwvr 40th do)
Brookes no1 - on light duties seing out its 10 year ticket as bottom end is worn.
Hawthorn Leslie no6- overhaul progresing when time availible - recently a device has been made to that the brass bearings can be white mettaled.
Currently most of the recent time has being spent on 67 and 1601 trying to get these back in service as brookes is not the most reliable thing to run and when writing is the only steam loco running!!

Yes please!, I helped with the original restoration carried out at Bury in the late seventies.

    Re - Meteor

I am not directly involved (I'm not really into Industrials at all), however it is probably no secret that the loco is dismantled, with the frames having seen a fair amount of work to rectify wear and corossion damage etc.

The boiler is mounted on a well trol for easy of access and has had the inner box removed - I believe the intention is fit a new one.

The wheels are away at the SDR for re-tyring and various other parts are in progress (e.g. spring repairs etc).
