Default SHILLINGSTONE STATION NEW BUFFET CAR APPEAL

    Chums,
There are some exciting things about to happen at Shillingstone (note that our signal-box project has just started) and bringing some more stock to the site is just one of them. The race is on for the Kerrygold Awards! Some lucky entries are going to be winners of support for their project and Shillingstone is looking to bring a buffet car to the site in order to enhance its catering provision and give people more to see and do. Check out our entry here at this link:
    http://www.kerrygoldcommunityawards.co.uk/project/230/Shillingstone_Station_Big_Buffet_Car

To support our entry all you have to is buy a pack of Kerrygold butter or
margerine to find a unique code. Enter this code when prompted to by the
website and vote...... maybe even leaving us a supporting comment or two. There
is no limit to the number of times you can enter.
So.... fetch your toasters, bake that cake, buy that butter, and keep the votes
    coming!"

    Many thanks,

    Ralph

Nice also to see the mention of our signal box project on page 21 of the latest edition of 'Heritage Railway'. In short, we'd be grateful for any information or pictures relating to the interior of the box as that would help enormously with our design stage.
Oh well, off to cook some mushrooms in Kerrygold butter!
    Ho hum,

    Ralph

Very pleased to read of these developments - I lived in nearby Durweston some 30 years ago and visited your site many times when it was totally abandoned! I have added Kerrygold butter to my shopping list!
I must add that I have stopped at the station twice in more recent times (probably 3 or 4 years ago), noticing the "we are open sign" on the main road. Both times I was subject to the unwelcome attention of an unfriendly dog (German Shepherd I think). I may well have been unlucky, but it certainly stopped me from visiting, spending and donating. Please don't take this as sniping, it's a friendly observation from a wellwisher.
I'll be passing on a Sunday in early August and will look in if you're open (dog permitting). All good wishes with the buffet car!

Many thanks for your support and nice comments. Not sure about the dog though; I'm scared of the things myself and honestly don't recall the German Shepherd.
Maybe a train ran it over

All the best and enjoy your visit

Just a note to say thank you to all those who've supported us. I've just had an email from Kerrygold to say that we've gone from the 21st to the 12th most popular project. A bit more of a push and we could really be in there!
    Many thanks again,

    Ralph

Wish you all the best for this and will try to arrange to call in at some point at least to buy something to suppport you all.

I am presently working on the new S&D trust web site, hopefully replacing the old one soon. As part of that we are putting together galleries of the stations and trying to include as much information as possible. I have already done drawings of Blandford and Wincanton and am currently working on Shillingstone and Wells. I have already done the main building parcels shed and building next to the Signal Box.

I am about to work on the signal box and waiting shelter but have been strugling to find out the size of the footprint. Would it be possible to say what the footprint of the buildings originally were. I will of course supply you back with a copy of the finished drawings.

    Kind regards
    Duncan

Okay, let's nip this one in the bud. Shillingstone has had a complete change of management in the last 3 months (since the August EGM) and has re-branded itself as the Shillingstone Railway Society. A steam engine (Cunarder) will shortly arrive on site, as will a couple other ietms of rolling stock; maybe more to follow in the New Year.
We are about to launch our 'Magic Mile' appeal to obtain a mile of track; it will cost £60,000 and £5,000 has been pledged before we've even launched it. Things have been tunred around at Shillingstone, there's a lot to look forward to with some hard work done recently (a lot behind the scenes and I'm being a bit cagey about one or two things in case they don't come to pass) and I would hate to see this undermined.
Feel free to PM me anybody if you want me to expand further, but things are finally looking good for Shillingstone. Bring on 2013 and our 'S&D 150' celebrations... more later.
