Two paintings by a well known artist have been stolen from an art dealer's gallery in Kent on the 17th August.
These pictures by world award winning artist, Alison Griffin, Vice President of the Royal Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Engravers, were on show at the Francis Isles Gallery in Rochester. Depicting scenes in snow at the Kent & East Sussex Railway, these have been featured on a set of Christmas cards that are currently on sale for the coming festive season. One Features 'Bodiam' hauling the vintage set, the other shows the visiting 'Jinty' hauling green Mark 1 coaches.
The thief was temporarily thwarted by a member of gallery staff but managed to escape. The person responsible was described as a white male in his mid to late fifties, with distinctive long greying hair tied into a pony tail. He was wearing a black trilby style hat and a three quarter length black leather jacket.
If these paintings are offered for sale, please contact Amanda at Kent Police on 01634 792521, quoting case reference number: DY13020-10.

10th. August 2010

The CHR Project has been hit with two cases of theft within a week. On 4th. August sleepers and cast iron chairs were removed from the line near Morton, local scrap dealers have been asked to be on the lookout for these sort of fittings being offered for sale. Meanwhile on the 10th. August the CHR site at Oswestry was raided and tools and equipment to the value of about £6500 was stolen, after breaking into onsite storage. Some of the specialist tools stolen included a balance impact machine, a rail cutting saw and a rail drilling machine, all are specialist railway machines of interest only to other railway restoration schemes, who would hopefully raise the alarm if these tools were offered to them.
